I had my wisdom teeth removed a week ago (last Friday). Everything was fine except that my cheek felt kind of swollen. I just noticed that the surgeon left something (either part of a tooth or a needle of some sort) solid and pointy sticking out of my gum... and stitched my cheek to my gum. I would just go back and ask him to fix it, but they are closed until Monday... My mouth hurts because of the pointy thing :(
EDIT: Why do I need to go to the ER or dentist?
WHAT DO I DO?!?! HALP!!!
Subaru Vivio RX-R is to keep it car related...

Unfortunately, you seem to have Ebola.
Kidding, but I'm sure you could call the dentist office.
EDIT: Ok, this actually sounds quite serious. See a doctor/nurse as soon as you can.

ER or Urgent Care Center. Now.

Call dentist. Most of them have an emergency number to call. If not.......emergency room.

Any hospital. Now.

Okay, dentist it is!

Just go get some pain meds to pull you through to Monday. Odds are it's only a small shard of tooth that was down in the socket. They can usually get you in day-of for things like that. You could also get some clove oil and cotton balls to put on inside your mouth if the pain is too intense for the pain killers. Usually clove oil is OK, as it's potent stuff.
My bottom left wisdom tooth went dry socket on me on a Friday. They couldn't get me in till Tuesday. Worst weekend of my life.

Probably, I'm not sure... I'm at school right now :/

Good luck............let us know.

Wait, why?
![]() 10/24/2014 at 15:55 |

Most do. I was able to go in for a root canal on Christmas Eve one year, after the prescription painkillers wouldn't do a thing. Gotta believe the dental insurer took a hit that time...

Ugh, this.

The sockets haven't gone dry, just part of something :(

Pliers will fix it.

Ooooo that sounds much worse than what I'm going through... I haven't had to take any painkillers all week!

I'd guess the sharp thing is actually one of the stitches, I wouldn't worry about that. As far as stitching your cheek to your gums....um that sucks.
I remember I ripped my stitches and bled like a pig for like 24 hours after my wisdoms, but it gets better pretty quick.

If I could fit them in...

Get that looked at STAT, you basically have a path straight to your bloodstream open to the elements, you don't want infection and abscesses.

Because we care.

The thing in my gum isn't a stitch. It is solid and doesn't bend and actually stabbed my finger when I tried to grab it :(

Well it's probably good that I've been taking industrial grade antibiotics all week... 2 a day at 875mg each! That's probably the only reason I haven't gotten an infection *shudders*

And then afterwards they empty your wallet.

I had mine out in August and the only thing was I couldn't eat properly for about a week because of the swelling. Likely there shouldn't be any kind of needle left in your mouth. Unfortunately I'm of no further help on this subject. Dentistry and all fields of medicine freak me out.

I could eat Mac 'n' Cheese and banana and Jell-o and pudding. That was about it. I tried French fries but I couldn't really brush my teeth so I was concerned about getting stuff in the back of my mouth. Try going to the State Fair and not being able to eat fair food. That was hell. Luckily I went back two other days and was able to. I had them out on a Thursday and the first "real food" I had was a burger the next Wednesday after my surgery. Also my surgery was 45 minutes from my house so try having the novacaine wear off and having to wait another hour after getting home before you could even get the Oxycodone.. Worst pain I've ever experienced. Also that Oxycodone made me throw up twice in about an hour spread. Most because I wasn't able to eat anything.

I ate a McChicken and two (2!) large fries the night of after driving to the grocery store to get a gallon of ice cream LOL
I ate apple sauce to please my parents but when they were out of the house I ate pizza, deli meat, and chips and drank pop ;) I only took two Oxycodone (friday night and saturday night) to keep my parents happy lol (Listening to Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon while wasted on Oxycodone and taking a bath is AWESOME!)

Go to the ER. And update later. With pics.

I really couldn't eat much after the first day because my mouth really couldn't open because of the swelling. And because I didn't eat solid food for like a week my teeth felt loose for like a week after. I did drink plenty of Soda, Coke and Dr. Pepper because the carbonation really helped me keep stuff down. Was not a great week though. Glad I did it before school started though.

I suggest a hammer, a chisel and a bottle of whiskey.

Somehow missed this. Did you get it taken care of? Probably wasn’t a needle fragment, sharpness near an extraction site is typically surrounding bone exposed.

Yeah, it went away relatively quickly lol
apparently dental is NOT covered under our $20 copay at the minor emergency room haha
